What else do we help with?

Continuing talking about what we do, here are a couple of other services we offer.

Our service users can drop off a bag of laundry and we will wash and dry it for them for no charge. Laundrettes can be very expensive and for those on a very low or no income they are just not an option, plus some laundrettes are not happy about ‘some people’ using their machines. People like to have clean clothes and it is a very important thing so people can maintain some dignity.

We also do a wash and swap service for sleeping bags. People give us theirs to take away and wash and we give them another one so they are not ever without one. This is vital as sleeping rough in a damp mouldy sleeping bag can seriously affect a persons health as well as being utterly miserable.

These are just two things we try to help with. Yes our washing machines do take a battering, but doing the clothes washing as well as the wash and swap for the sleeping bags is so important for the rough sleepers in Christchurch.
