So, what do we cook?

So what do we cook people have asked? Do you do nice soups? How can you cook from a car park? Well here is a bit about the food we cook for the service users and how we do it.

Firstly, we only serve food that we would eat ourselves and secondly it has to be good quality, nutritious food.

We have a team of people each night who cook on a rota and generally we cook in slow cookers as it is a good way of keeping food warm and easy as many of us work daytimes.

We don't cook soup even though we are a soup kitchen!

We cook things such as beef stew, BBQ sausage casserole, chicken casserole, chicken curry, lasagne, pasta bake etc. We always serve potatoes and vegetables with all meals. Our service users have tea/coffee and we always make sure there is cake/biscuits and if possible chocolate to increase calorie intake and we offer fruit when we can for health.

Everyone who cooks has a level 2 food safety certificate and the mandatory allergen training certificate. We also have the highest 5 star food rating from Environmental Health who assesses our home kitchens as this is where we cook from. We have full public liability insurance.

So yes we currently serve from a car park since the building we were using was sold for redevelopment but I think you'll see that it's good grub!

Cooking however is just one aspect of what we do, in the next post we'll tell you more about what we do.
